100 Bloody Acres

Human meat may be on the menu in the Cairnes brother’s rather gory debut feature, but laughter’s undoubtedly the special of the day.

A riff on the unyielding hillbilly-killer movies, but with a distinct Aussie flavour, 100 bloody acres tells the ”timeless” tale of a trio of youngsters who, broken down in the middle of nowhere, hitch a ride with an absolute nutter. In this case, the nutter is local yokel (Damon Herriman), one of two brothers (Angus Sampson as the other, even more demented bother) running a fertiliser business that’s secret to success lies within the crunched-up human blood and bones the boys salvage and put to use.

This bit of home-grown fun isn’t an instant classic by any means, but it’s an enjoyable and fresh addition to a small pile of ‘bloody n’ funny’ Aussie flicks.

DVD : The DVD comes with some enjoyable extras, including a gag reel, interviews with cast and crew, the Morgan Brothers TV ads and a SFX featurette.
