Caffeinated Clint December 22, 2002 Movie News

According to The Hollywood Reporter, This weekend, "The Lord of the Rings : The Two Towers" racked up an impressive estimate of $61.5 million. The Hobbit-filled feature streaked past the $100 million mark in five days, and the cume for "Two Towers" stands at roughly $101.5 million, which some competing distributors note may be a conservative estimate. It took the first film, "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring," eight days to reach the $100 million level. The debut of the Peter Jackson-helmed "Two Towers" was 30% higher than that of "Fellowship of the Ring," which opened with $47.2 million during its first Friday through Sunday period, and went on to gross $313.4 million domestically. The film opens in Australia boxing day.
