Beetlejuice still bubbling away

“Beetlejuice 2” is one of those movies that’s gained more eminence from “not happening”, and hence, becoming the legend of a thousand rumours, than something that might actually get off the ground. I think the first I remember hearing about a sequel was about 10-15 years ago when Premiere mentioned that they’d be doing a “Beetlejuice goes Hawaiian” with the titular Ghost with the Most partying it up alongside the usual blend of ghouls, only this time surfing and the like.

More recently, Chris Tucker’s name was mentioned as a possible co-star in a looming sequel – but once again, nothing eventuated from it.

A scooper for Dark Horizons has the right idea – go straight to one of the stars and ask where the heck it is. Unfortunately, Michael Keaton, Alec Baldwin, and Winona Ryder were unavailable, but Glenn Shaddix [Otho] was available to answer all the scoopers questions.

“He said Michael Keaton definitely wants to be involved as does Tim Burton but only as a Producer, he isn’t interested in directing it. There have been a lot of discussions about a sequel but the main thing holding it back is the lack of a script really. Asked if he would like to return to a sequel he said "well I survived at the end of the movie so of course I’d love to come back".

Good news that there’s still interest out there for it, but somehow I don’t think Shaddix has the power to see it made. Not quite.
