Clints Bits – 19/9

To get you through the weekend, bits on "Wimbledon", "The Manchurian Candidate", a superbit "Spider-Man", what Victor Salva is doing next and what to expect from the "Resident Evil : Apocalypse" trailer.

  • Jon Favreau has joined the cast of “Wimbledon”. He will portray a sports agent who resurfaces in the life of his client when he learns of his winning streak.

  • Jon Voight will be playing Senator Thomas Jordan, an elder statesman central to a drama surrounding two hero soldiers who return from war unable to remember what truly happened to them, in the remake of “The Manchurian Candidate”.

  • Jason Schwartzman has joined the cast of Steve Martin’s “Shopgirl”. He will star opposite Martin and Claire Danes in the film set to start shooting October 13.

  • Cinescape has a scoop on what to expect with the “Resident Evil : Apocalypse” Trailer here

  • According to a report on Coming Soon, Jonathan Frakes will have a cameo in the “Thunderbirds” movie, which he is directing.

  • Superhero Hype reports that a Superbit version of “Spider-Man” is headed to DVD. Only thing is, it’s only going to be Region 2 at the moment.

  • Victor Salva [“Jeepers Creepers”] will write and direct “The Watch”, which revolves around a team of inexperienced soldiers who are sent to blow up a critical Nazi bridge only to discover that they are being hunted by Abaddon, a spirit of the devil.

  • Wetworks has picked up Midway Games’ video game "Freaky Flyers," "Arthur C. Clarke’s Venus Prime" book series and Joseph Badal’s just-released novel "The Pythagorean Solution” to turn into movies.

  • Gina Wendkos will pen the live-action feature adaptation of the graphic novel "Jingle Belle" for Revolution Studios. The graphic novel, written by Paul Dini, centers on the precocious teenage daughter of Santa Claus, who has had enough of the North Pole and goes off on her own, inadvertently triggering a sequence of events that puts Christmas in jeopardy.

  • Michael Pitt, Cherry Jones, Jayne Atkinson, Celia Weston and Brendan Gleeson have joined the ensemble cast of director M. Night Shyamalan’s "The Woods".

  • Matt Davis has joined the cast of Merchant-Ivory film’s “Heights”, playing an attractive East Village-type who is still living back in the college days.
