He made such a knockout revisit in “Gangs of New York”, it’s quite funny that he hasn’t been roped into anything since. Now, someone’s had the nerve to ask Daniel Day Lewis if he’d like another bag of gold for his services. According to Dark Horizons, the Oscar Winner is in talks with Australian director Phil Noyce to headline “American Pastoral”, Noyce’s film based on the Philip Roth novel. Apparently, Mel Gibson and Viggo Mortensen were asked – but weren’t interested. In the film, Day Lewis would play Seymour Levov, known as the Swede, an aging high-school sports star struggling to deal with an America that is growing crazier and crazier. His daughter has joined a terrorist group, and the Swede has to try to come to terms with the gradual disintegration of the American post-war dream.
