Clints Bits – 16/10

More bits than a congenial touring tranny today. Casting news for “The Sopranos” [some surprise casting news in fact], a film based on boxer Billy Roth, an update on the “Blade” spin-off, and new flicks for The Rock, Kelly Hu and Billy Bob Thornton. More too, but don’t have the legroom to précis.

  • A Dreamlike sequence will be bringing back some of the dead in “The Sopranos” next year. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Vincent Pastore (aka Salvatore "Big Pussy" Bonpensiero), David Proval (Richie Aprile), John Heard (Detective Vin Makazian), Al Sapienza (Mikey Palmice), Dan Grimaldi (Philly "Spoons" Parisi) and Jason Cerbone (Jackie Aprile Jr.) are said to be on board for the episode, with Joe Pantoliano in talks to reprise his role as Ralphie.

  • Director Roland Emmerich and producer Mark Gordon [“The Day After Tommorow”] will re-team on “Tut”, an action-adventure/love story about the young pharaoh Tutankhamen and his attempt to reclaim his throne and save his country after the death of his father.

  • Nicolas Cage will star in and produce feature film based on the life of boxer-turned-prison coach Billy Roth.

  • In an interview with The Arrow, “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” producer Michael Bay says a prequel film may be in the works.

  • Marco Schnabel is in talks to helm Will Ferrell’s next, an untitled soccer comedy starring Ferrell as the coach of his young son’s soccer team who is forced to go up against his highly competitive father, who has a new son on the opposing team.

  • Kelly Hu [“X-Men 2”] has joined the cast of first-time feature helmer Marcos Siega’s action-comedy "Underclassman”, about a detective who goes undercover at an elite private school.

  • Vadim Perelman will direct Kennedy-Marshall’s “The Talisman”, about a 12-year-old boy goes on a quest in this world and in a parallel universe to acquire a mystical talisman that will save the life of his dying mother, which was originally set to be a mini-series.

  • Dwayne Rockanegger, I mean, The Rock, will star in “Instant Karma”, about a safecracker, who dies and is reincarnated as a series of different animals, moving his way up the food chain. It will be a mixture of CGI and Live-Action with Pierce Brosnan, Mira Sorvino, David Alan Grier and Eartha Kitt starring and Burt Reynolds, Dom DeLuise, Gene Wilder and Broken Lizard as voice characters.

  • Gary Sinise, Alfre Woodard, Linus Roache and Anthony Edwards have joined the cast of “The Forgotten” about a bereaved mother stunned to learn from her psychiatrist that her memories of her 8-year-old son are entirely fabricated.

  • Evan Farmer has had to pull out of a role in “Return to Sleepaway Camp”, due to TV Hosting commitments. He will however still be contributing musically to the soundtrack.

  • DVD Answers says “Underworld” will hit DVD in Jan. It’ll include director and writer commentaries, four featurettes, a music video, storyboards and more.

  • Variety reports that Universal are all for doing another “Mummy” movie, but not a “Hulk” sequel. They might have to shop Greenie around to other studios?

  • Dark Horizons reports that the untitled Mandy Moore First Daughter project has decided on the name “Chasing Liberty”.

  • Neil Jordan is in talks to Direct and Re-write Stan Winston studio’s “Me and My Monster”.

  • Dark Horizons reports that Billy Bob Thornton might be joining the cast of “Oceans Twelve”.

  • Fat Joe talks a little bit about his cameo and some of the highlights of the upcoming “Scary Movie 3” to MTV

  • Marcus Nispel [“Texas Chainsaw Massacre”] is in talks to direct “The Expendables”, inspired by a real-life program at California’s Chino prison in which convicts are taught diving skills that can provide them with lucrative salvage and ship-repair careers following their parole.
