Alec Guinness would have another reason to be dismayed with Hollywood if he were alive. The 1995 film “Mute Witness”, which he starred in, is getting the tinseltown remake. According to Variety, Spyglass and Sony-based Tree Line Films have joined forces to remake the British thriller they’ve set “Gothika” screenwriter Sebastian Gutierrez to write the script. The original Anthony Waller-directed film told the story of three Americans who make a movie and get entwined with the Russian underworld. "The original film was wonderful, with this woman who witnesses a murder when she’s stuck in a foreign land," said Tree Line’s James Mangold. "Some of the action set pieces were brilliant, but the film was a tweener, and independent with a very mainstream idea. We will retool the idea into a sharp and commercial thriller."
