Tartakovsky joins the Dark side

Making a sequel to 1982’s “The Dark Crystal”

The Jim Henson troupe are dusting off the puppets from the 1982 fantasy classic “The Dark Crystal” for a belated sequel.

According to Variety, “Star Wars : Clone Wars” helmer Genndy Tartakovsky has been handed the keys to the puppet cupboard and will shoot the film, called “Power of the Dark Crystal”, late Summer.

The director’s Orphanage Animation Studios will take the lead on the CG animation elements for the puppet-driven film, says the trade.

This one is set hundreds of years following the events of the first film, with a mysterious girl made of fire stealing a shard of the crystal in hopes of reigniting the dying sun.
