1992 juvenile dark fantasy novel turns film

Like my trips to the pub of late, its been way too long between drinks for Clive Barker.

Good news is…..he’s about to take a swig of something new.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the “Hellraiser” alumni has asked Kelly Asbury (“Shrek 2”) to direct a film version of his story “The Thief of Always”. According to the trade, 20th Century Fox and Seraphim Films will produce.

Asbury spent the past year writing the script, based on the 1992 juvenile dark fantasy novel, after meeting Barker at an authors festival where Asbury was invited to discuss his nonfiction book “Dummy Days.” Asbury and Barker were alphabetically seated and struck up a conversation. Barker then pulled “Thief” off the shelf and asked Asbury to write and direct it.
