Satan’s Playground (DVD)

Featuring a Who’s Who of horror past and well, mostly past – including “Sleepaway Camp” star Felissa Rose and Ellen Sandweiss of “Evil Dead” – it’s a mish-mash of the old and new, combining the overdone plot of a family getting stuck out in the middle-of-nowhere and left to fend themselves off against the evil that lurks there with some impressive visuals and a distinct look to the film that really springs it out of same ol’ same’ ol terrain

“Satans Playground”
Director: Dante Tomaselli
Starring: Felissa Rose, Ellen Sandweiss, Edwin Neal, Irma St.Paule, Danny Lopes

Serial low-budget filmmaker Dante Tomaselli (“Desecration”) returns, corn syrup in hand, with yet another of his effectively inexpensive horror ventures.
Featuring a Who’s Who of horror past and well, mostly past – including “Sleepaway Camp” star Felissa Rose and Ellen Sandweiss of “Evil Dead” – it’s a mish-mash of the old and new, combining the overdone plot of a family getting stuck out in the middle-of-nowhere and left to fend themselves off against the evil that lurks there with some impressive visuals and a distinct look to the film that really springs it out of same ol’ same’ ol terrain. Sure, there’s nothing remarkable about the performances either, but it is a treat seeing some of these old guns – especially Felissa Rose – firing it up again.
Anchor Bay have done another rip-snorting job of the DVD. It looks good, sounds good, and even comes with a few choice extras – including a couple of small featurettes and a commentary by the insightful Tomaselli.
