Joining Steve Carell for “Get Smart” movie
Now that they’ve signed a co-star – it must be happening for real, right?
Speaking of course about the long-awaited somewhat-turmutlous film adaptation of Mel Brooks’ classic TV comedy series, “Get Smart” – who has just signed Anne Hathaway (“The Devil Wears Prada”) to play the ’99’ in the pic. It was previously rumoured that “Smalllville” star Kristen Kreuk may have been the frontrunner for the role, made famous by Barbara Feldon.
Steve Carell has been onboard to play dimish secret agent Maxwell Smart since the project was announced a couple of years back. Since that time the project has been temporarily shelved – because they couldn’t find a good script -postponed, and at one stage, as good as wedged between “Batman Vs.Superman” and “Hardware II” in development hell.
According to Variety, the Peter Segal (“Tommy Boy”) directed pic will shoot next March.
The movie is based on the 70’s tv show that followed gormless secrent agent Maxwell Smart, a spy for CONTROL, fighting the evil forces of KAOS. The big screen version will move the setting to today with CONTROL falling on hard times and not getting the big government funding other spy agencies, like the CIA, do.
