Of acclaimed Australian actor David Gulpilil
Here’s your first look at acclaimed Australian actor David Gulpilil as he appears in the forthcoming “Australia” opposite Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman.
Acclaimed Australian actor David Gulpilil was released from the hospital where he was diagnosed with pneumonia. He is currently resting in Sydney as he prepares to complete work on Baz Luhrmann’s epic adventure “Australia” with Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman. Gulpilil will record additional dialogue and song for the film which is due to wrap principal photography at the end of this week. Gulpilil has taken care to ensure that the lung infection had cleared before attempting to record the new tracks.
Gulpilil’s co-starring role as King George, a magic man in his tribe, requires the actor to sing a great deal of his role in several pivotal scenes in the film. The actor took this requirement seriously and is proud to showcase this unique aspect of his culture in Luhrmann’s film.
As the actor states, “Our tometic ancestors created the land in the dreamtime. Everything you see, including animals, tress, rocks and rivers were created in the dreamtime. Our ancestors called the land into life, giving names to places and animals through song. Our songs represent our stories and our connection to this land. Without our songs we would have nothing.”
