They’ll have more luck squeezing coke out of a cow’s teat, but nonetheless Disney is reportedly trying to wheedle Anne Hathaway into donning the prop tiara again for a third “Princess Diaries”.

After the success of their fairytale hit “Enchanted”, we’re told the House of Mouse is dead-keen to bring back their other money-spinning Princess – Mia Thermopolis. And you can’t blame ‘em, both “The Princess Diaries” and “The Princess Diaries 2 : A Royal Engagement” made quite the pretty penny.

It’s not like they’d be short of a story either – there’s been a bunch of “Princess Diaries” books (written by Meg Cabot) that the studio could draw inspiration from.

Problem here, I’d think, is there confidence in getting Ms Hathaway back.

Going by everything the “Get Smart” star has said in recent interviews – about how she’s “so over” playing the character that gets a miraculous transformation (she was also referring to her “Devil Wears Prada” role) – I’d say they’re going to have to either a) find a new Mia or b) offer Hathaway a Julia Roberts-like figure.

Hathaway doesn’t need to do another “Princess Diaries”, her career is in a good place right now, but more so, Disney could probably make it for a third of what it’d cost them if they used Hathaway … maybe even do it as a direct-to-video sequel. Just my two cents.
