Michael Douglas as Liberace?
Sounds like a belated April Fool’s Joke, right?
Well, it ain’t. The Academy Award Winning Sex Addict is indeed set to play the flamboyant pianist.
Steven Soderbergh, who worked with Douglas on drug-drama “Traffic”, is set to direct.
Possibly joining Douglas for the WB-produced biopic is Matt Damon. Soderbergh is in discussions with the “Bourne Identity” star to play Scott Thorson who sued Liberace in 1982 for $113 million in palimony, claiming he was the entertainer’s companion for five years. Even though Liberace never wavered from career-long denials that he was gay, Thorson reportedly settled for $95,000 in 1986.
The “Liberace” project is still a while off – Soderbergh says he has two other films he wants to make first. Probably just as well, Douglas will probably need some piano lessons – in addition to several other classes he may need to enrol in.
