Last week it was announced that Stephen Chow had abandoned his position as director on upcoming film adaptation of “The Green Hornet” – but was still set to co-star in the film as the Hornet’s sidekick, Kato.
Well, Apparently Chow’s considering not playing Kato now.
He’s blaming it on scheduling (saying he wants to film some Jack Black-Superhero film) – but that sounds like a tug.
I think what’s happened here is that Chow only ever agreed to play the role of Kato in the film, opposite Seth Rogen’s Hornet, if he could direct the film. Now that he’s no longer directing (“creative differences” said the PR department), the martial-arts master’s probably not as interested in acting in it. And there’s likely a contract somewhere that reads ‘Mr. Chow will only play Kato IF he directs the film’ so he’ll be able to escape the flick without penalty.
