Star Trek to premiere in Australia!

“Star Trek” fans might want to ‘beam’ themselves up (please, bring a towel and chafing ointment if you’re planning to do so) to Sydney next month – as the stars of “Star Trek” take over the Opera House!

PARAMOUNT PICTURES AUSTRALIA TO HOST WORLD PREMIERE OF

J.J. ABRAMS’ “STAR TREK” AT SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE APRIL 7

SYDNEY (20 March 2009) – Paramount Pictures Australia is giving a coveted first look at J.J. Abrams’ (MISSION IMPOSSIBLE:III, LOST, ALIAS) action adventure STAR TREK to tastemakers in art, design, entertainment, fashion, media and politics at the World Premiere on April 7.

The fresh STAR TREK experience will come to life as director/producer J.J. Abrams and cast members Eric Bana, Chris Pine (SMOKIN’ ACES), Zachary Quinto (HEROES) and Karl Urban (THE BOURNE SUPREMACY) present the film to 1,600 guests in Sydney Opera House’s legendary Concert Hall. This highly anticipated premiere marks only the third occasion that a film has debuted at Sydney Opera House and the first time a film has premiered in the Concert Hall at the acclaimed venue.

“Not only are we honoured to have J.J. Abrams and the cast here in Sydney for the World Premiere of the stunning new STAR TREK, we are also very excited to present this event at one of Australia’s-and the world’s-most famous locations, Sydney Opera House,” said Mike Selwyn, Managing Director of Paramount Pictures Australia.

Screenwriters Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (TRANSFORMERS, MISSION IMPOSSIBLE:III) offer an inventively reimagined story based on creator Gene Roddenberry’s original television series, widely regarded as the greatest space series of all time.

Additional cast members include Chris Hemsworth, Simon Pegg, Winona Ryder, Zoe Saldana, Jennifer Morrison, John Cho, Anton Yelchin, Ben Cross, Bruce Greenwood with a cameo by Leonard Nimoy, who first portrayed Spock.

The Sydney premiere kicks off a world tour that touches down in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Japan, Korea, Netherlands, New Zealand,

Russia, Spain and the UK.

STAR TREK opens in Australian cinemas on May 7, one day prior to the US release on May 8.
