English actors Samantha Morton (“In America”), Dominic West (“300″) and Polly Walker (TVs “Caprica”) have joined the cast of Disney’s “John Carter of Mars”, says The Hollywood Reporter.
The film adaptation of the Edgar Rice Burroughs book stars Taylor Kitsch (TVs “Friday Night Lights”), Lynn Collins (“X-Men Origins : Wolverine”) and Willem Dafoe, and is being directed by Andrew Stanton.
The flick, at one stage set up at Paramount (with Jon Favreau set to direct), centers on a Civil War veteran (Kitsch) who finds himself mysteriously transported to Mars, where he becomes embroiled with the planet’s warring people.
Morton plays Sola, the daughter of Dafoe’s Tars Tarkas, who must hide her softer side from her warmongering race.
West plays Sab Than, prince of the Zodangans who believes he is entitled to rule Mars.
Walker plays Sarkoja, a merciless, tyrannical Thark.
The film is eyeing an early 2010 start.
