Screenwriter Diablo Cody (“Junoâ€, “Jennifer’s Bodyâ€) looks set to bring TV/Literary fave “Sweet Valley High†to the big screen.
Universal is in talks to pick up the rights to the books (first published in 1983) – books which reportedly informed it girl Cody’s formative years.
The books (and later, TV series) centered on the lives of two teenage girls, Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield, who lived in the fictional town of Sweet Valley, Calif. Jessica was the more conniving and materialistic of the sisters, and usually needed help from the more practical Elizabeth when her schemes went awry.
Fox2000 and Mandate were apparently also interested in the film, but the home of the globe won.
The “Sweet Valley High” TV series ran from September 5, 1994 to October 14, 1997. Brittany and Cynthia Daniel play the lead roles.
