Versatile character actor Stephen Root (last seen donning fangs in HBO wonder-hit “True Blood”, though probably best remembered as the Stapler & Cake loving ‘Milton’ in Mike Judge’s “Office Space”) has joined the cast of long-running (Seems most people don’t even realize it’s still going – as was the case with a friend the other day who, upon being informed of the new additions to the cast, asked, ‘What!? That’s still going!?’ Of course it’s still going… why? it’s called good ratings!) Fox series “24”.
In the new season, which premieres in January, Root will play Ben Prady, an officer of the Department of Corrections looking into a parolee gone missing.
The guts of the next batch of episodes of “24” will involve Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) contending with assassination threats made during a peace conference between President Allison Taylor of the United States and President Omar Hassan of the fictional Islamic Republic of Kamistan.
Sutherland has said that Season 8 will likely to be the show’s final season.
