Adrien Brody is the new ‘Dutch’ – well, kinda.
The Oscar Winner has snagged the lead role in director Nimrod Antal’s “Predatorsâ€, according to Variety.
You’d think director Antal and producer Robert Rodriguez would’ve had to have twisted the actor’s arm to appear in such a flick – but seems that’s not the case. Proof that his share price has slipped a little in the last few years, it was actually Brody (“King Kongâ€, “The Thin Red Lineâ€) that chased the role, requesting his agents nag the shit out of the Austin-based filmmaker until they caved in.
Alice Braga (“I Am Legendâ€), Danny Trejo (“Macheteâ€), Walt Goggins (“The Shieldâ€), Oleg Taktarov (“15 Minutes’), Mahershalalhashbaz Ali (“The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttonâ€), and Louiz Ozawa (“Giganticâ€) have also been added to the cast. (There’s also a chance Arnold Schwarzenegger may appear as cigar-chompin’ Dutch in the film).
In the film, a group of mercenaries – captured by the Predators – are forced to survive not only the harsh Jungle terrain of the Predator’s home planet, but the inhabitants themselves.
Fox is planning for “Predators†to be the first in a long-line of new Man vs. Monster movies, with Brody contracted to sequels.
“Predatorsâ€, due July 9, 2010, is about to get underway on location in Hawaii and at producer Robert Rodriguez’s Troublemaker Studios in Austin, Texas.
Update! The Hollywood Reporter has further details on the characters that Brody & co will be playing :
Brody is a man who ends up inheriting the mantle of leader and is known as a hunter of men. Grace would play an accountant-type whose unassuming facade masks a dangerous serial killer.
Braga is the tough female killer. Ali is a man not afraid to die, Goggins is the loose canon of the group and Taktarov is a former Russian special ops agent.
Trejo, already cast, is Cuchillo, a hardened warrior with twin uzis strapped to his back.
