Jacob’s Crazy for You

This is a joke, right!?

“Twilight” producers Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen are said to be courting everyone’s favourite lycanthrope (Though in my house, Scott Howard still retains the majority of the votes) Taylor Lautner for a remake of the 80s wrestling flick “Vision Quest” (or “Crazy for You” as it was known here in Australia).

Known mostly for being ‘the flick that featured Madonna’s ‘Crazy for You’ (Madonna has a cameo in the movie too), “Quest” starred Matthew Modine as a high-school wrestling star who falls in love with Linda Fiorentino’s artist, who is renting a room from Modine’s father (Ronny Cox of “Beverly Hills Cop” fame).

Asusmingly, Lautner – should he agree to don the lycra – would play the Modine role, which, not surprisingly (and I’m sure it’s the only reason the young actor is being courted to star in the film), would require him to go shirtless a lot of the time.

An insider tells E! Online that screenwriter Richard Munic has penned a script that’s very faithful to the original (that’s a good thing!?). “Taylor saw [the script] and is really excited about it,” says the unnamed source. “It’s very much in line with his athleticism. His character is someone who’s striving for greatness.”

Warner Bros wouldn’t certify whether Lautner was indeed in the running to play the lead, but did confirm that a “Vision Quest” remake is in the works.

I remember watching the flick on VHS (likely because it didn’t get a run in the country theatres) when it first hit stores and found it to be rather undistinguished, and fairly average flick. I was a big fan of Modine at the time – and who didn’t love Fiorentino!? – but think he was dreadfully miscast in this one. As a fan of “Twin Peaks”, I remember reading that the movie was filmed in the same town… that of Spokane, Washington… and have said a few times to myself that I must go back and check it out again (if only so I can spot the diner, the rail-yard etc), but never got there. Just no interest. I hear the book on which “Vision Quest” is based is better; maybe I’ll check it out some time.

Can only imagine Pink’s going to get the call to cover Madonna’s “Crazy for You” for the soundtrack of the remake.
