Rumours of a “Beetlejuice” sequel have been gliding around the Hollywood skyline for years. In fact, a script – “Beetlejuice goes Hawaiian”, penned by Jonathan Gems – was even commissioned at one point. Alas, the Deetz family tormentor remains unearthed.

Moviehole spoke to Geena Davis last month (while on the promotional trail for “Accident’s Happen” in Australia) who was elated at the very thought of a “Beetlejuice” sequel.

“It’s funny, [another journalist] just asked me about a sequel to Beetlejuice – which, though I haven’t heard anything about it, might be interesting”, Davis told us. “I would do that!”.

“Thing is, do ghosts age?”, asks Davis. “Wouldn’t we be stuck in the age we were? Alec [Baldwin] and I would have to look as we did then – who knows, maybe we could? I better get in touch with Tim Burton”.

Yesterday, at the “Toy Story 3″ junket, we had the opportunity to corner Michael Keaton and ask him whether he’d be keen to reprise one of his most famous roles for the same film.

“Not sure if you know this but they’re going to show Beetlejuice at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery”

MK: Oh Cool

“We were wondering, is there going to be a sequel? I heard Geena Davis is ready to go if it happens”

MK: Oh I’d do that in a heartbeat.

“Would you do it?”

MK: Absolutely, that’s the one thing I’d love to do again.

“That’s great.”

MK: That’s the only one I’d love to do

“Really? Well I’d love to see you in the role again! Thank you”

Oh, what fond memories I have of “Beetlejuice”. I caught the film whilst holiday in Queensland in 1988. Some Brisbane theatre. And it was packed. It was the film of the month – if not the year. The one you’d be talking about with your schoolmates for weeks after. And who didn’t have a crush on Winona Ryder back then!? Here’s hoping little Ms Ryder, ‘Ken’ doll and Billionaire Burton can get the sequel up… before the studio decides to simply remake the original.
