With “Thomas Crown Affair 2” no longer on his to-do list (Don’t think it’s going to be on anyone’s “to-do list” for quite a while; nobody seems much interested in bankrolling it), and his interest in returning to the states to work waning by the day, Paul Verhoeven has decided that, like his last couple of films (including 2006’s “Black Books”), his next effort will be made in his native Holland.
The “Total Recall” filmmaker will be bringing Louis Couperus’ “The Hidden Force” to the big screen, says Variety.
Here’s how Amazon describes the novel :
A novel written in 1900 and set in the Dutch East Indies. It concerns a colonial official who is undone by his wilful application of reason to a culture that is steeped in the mystical and irrational.
“The Hidden Force”, which was previously made into a TV series in the ’70s, is expected to be released in the Winter of 2011.
