It was revealed earlier this week that Martin Freeman (“The Office”) had been offered the lead role of Bilbo Baggins in Peter Jackson’s “The Hobbit” but had been forced to turn down the offer because of his commitment to the TV series “Sherlock”.
EW are reporting that New Line and MGM are still hoping to have Freeman, who plays Dr. Watson on “Sherlock”, play Bilbo. As such, they’re prepared to work around his telly schedule.
If such negotiations are indeed happening, it’d seem “The Hobbit” is no longer bogged and is inching forward.
