Vladimir Mashkov is onboard and Michael Nyqvist is in final talks to join the cast of director Brad Bird’s “Mission : Impossible 4″.

TheWrap has the exclusive on Mashkov’s (“Behind Enemy Lines”) appointment, saying he’s been cast as a Russian agent.

Meantime, What’s Playing says “Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” star Nyqvist may be the film’s big bad.

“Pleased as heck with the turn he puts in in [Dragon Tattoo], Cruise and director Brad Bird reportedly contacted the talented actor and asked him if he’d be interested in beating up Ethan Hunt. “They have like a terrific 5 page fight sequence at the end of the film – brutal, brutal stuff”, says our Para-insider. “He’s this very charming, but calculating bad guy. Not your typical spy-film villain”. Funnily enough, Para also contacted Noomi Rapace to see if she’d be interested in playing the female lead. She wasn’t.”

The site also reports that the production is trying to snag a big-name to play the new IMF boss.

”Mission : Impossible 4”, produced by J.J Abrams, will team Cruise and Oscar Nominee Jeremy Renner.
