Matthew Goode the frontrunner for Superman!?

Caffeinated Clint November 22, 2010 Movie News

I’m a little unsure about running this… just, well… you’ll see…

…Zack Snyder may be retaining the services of his “Watchmen” star Matthew Goode for the “Superman” reboot… or so says MovieNewz.

”According to our sources, Snyder wants Goode to play mild-mannered reporter Clark Kent and has plans to rely heavily on CGI for The Man of Steel”, says the site, continuing “Essentially this means Superman could be a CG enhanced character, similar to what Warner Bros. is doing with the Green Lantern costume. This would certainly eliminate the need to cast based on the physical stature of Superman.”

I don’t know that I really believe this… just doesn’t seem, well, believable? Matthew Goode, really!? And that part about “CGI for The Man of Steel”? That sure as shit better be false! I so don’t want this to be true…

The Superman reboot ”Man of Steel” is now in the stables, ready to run.

According to Deadline, a search has begun to find the new Man of Steel – and by the sounds of it, director Zack Snyder and producer Christopher Nolan aren’t against the idea of casting an unknown in the role. Having said that, ”The Social Network”’s Armie Hammer, ”The Vampire Diaries”‘ Ian Somerhalder, and ”True Blood”’s Joe Manganiello remain in contention.

Says the website, “Insiders tell us the studio is open to creating a star as it reboots the Superman franchise: specifically, that the actor will either be a discovery or on TV but likely someone who isn’t well known yet. And he’ll be in the age range of 28-to-32. The studio expects to look at hundreds of young actors before making a decision. Agents who are readying candidates note that hiring an established series regular might not even be possible. The film will likely begin production around next June, and that shooting schedule could wreak havoc with fall prime time schedules.”

A helluva lot of actors auditioned and consequently screen-tested for the role of Superman in ”Superman Returns” – Jim Caviezel, Matthew Bomer, Christopher Showerman, Mike O’Hearn, Paul Walker, Ashton Kutcher, David Boreanaz – before Bryan Singer decided on Brandon Routh, so chances are we will be waiting quite a while before we find out who got the job. In the meantime, let the rumours fly!
