Lois Lane rumours already flying about!

Caffeinated Clint February 1, 2011 Movie News

Now that we’ve an answer to that lingering question, ‘Who will play Superman?’ we, of course, want to know who’ll play the big guy’s love interest, Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane.

Lois Lane is a hard role to cast, maybe even harder than Superman. She’s such a complex character that Lane – far from a beauty queen but Super attractive, encompasses a wad of attitude but never so much that it’s a turn-off, and treats Clark rather awfully sometimes… and yet you find it hard to hate her. The actress needs to be someone highly-expressive with attitude up the wazoo, and maybe most importantly, someone that doesn’t reek of sexiness – Lane, after all, was merely an ‘OK looker’ with more fire in her belly than a flamin’ hot body. Courtney Cox would’ve been great… fifteen years ago.

There’s, of course, all sorts of ‘This girl and That girl may play Lois’ rumours over the net today. Here’s a look at some of the rumoured contenders :

Hollywood Insider says Anne Hathaway was the frontrunner for the role but opted instead to play Selina Kyle. As you can appreciate, you can’t play Catwoman in one movie and Lois Lane in another so a choice had to be made. Nice to be in such a position hey, Anne!?

Both Gregory Littley and What’s Playing report that “Twilight” cutie Kristen Stewart is up for the role; the former adds that it’s unlikely Stewart will accept the role because she’s been offered dozens of equally-tempting projects of late.

ComicBookMovie
and What’s Playing have also heard Malin Akerman’s name mentioned. At 32, the “Watchmen” actress would seem a little too “mature” to be cozying up to 27-year-old Superman, wouldn’t she? I’m guessing she was in the mix way before young Cavill was hired.

What’s Playing also has a few more names to add to the mix : Rachel McAdams (“Sherlock Holmes”), Dianna Agron (TVs “Glee”) and Jessica Biel (“Stealth”).

Mary Elizabeth Winstead (“Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World”) and Kristen Bell (“Forgetting Sarah Marshall”) have also been mentioned as possibilities.

I say TRON-ize Margot Kidder.
