George Clooney starring in a “Cannonball Run” redo for director Guy Ritchie? Possibly, according to Bad Ass Digest.
If anyone’s apt to fill Burt Reynolds shoes in a remake of “Cannonball Run” I suppose it’s George Clooney – he’s, quite frankly, the only one that comes to mind that embodies the swagger and charm Burt has (Having said that, Clooney reminds me more of a Roger Moore – who appeared in “Cannonball Run” too).
I’m not opposed to a remake (I’ve never said those words before have I!?) of “Cannonball Run” because, well, it’s essentially already been made.
Remember this piece of crap?…
Yep, “Cannonball Fever” (aka “Speed Zone”).
Anything Guy Ritchie directs will beat it.
Yep. But more than that, “Cannonball Run” is actually a film that lends itself to sequels, remakes, spin-off’s and all that because it’s about a race… featuring a bunch of different characters. You can chop and change those characters. Move locales. It doesn’t matter. So long as you fill the thing with recognizable actors, stock the picture up with plenty of hot cars, have a funny script (which “Cannonball Fever” and rip-off “Rat Race” didn’t) and hire a good stuntman [or twelve], you’ve got yourself a “Cannonball” movie. Though, I must admit, Reynolds was part of the attraction of “Cannonball” and “Cannonball Run II”. But shit, hey could still be in it… I mean, why couldn’t we!? If even for a cameo.
Hopefully Guy Ritchie is a fan of the Burt.
If it should come off, who would you like to see in the new “Cannonball Run” movie?
