Smiths and Shyamalan team!

Caffeinated Clint April 5, 2011 Movie News

One-trick (OK, two-tricks) pony M.Night Shyamalan has snagged Will and Jaden Smith for his next project (‘ca-ching!’), an untitled science-fiction yarn set a thousand years in the future, in which the Fresh Prince and his Karate kicking kid play an estranged father and son navigating a desolate planet Earth after a spacecraft crash. The twist has not yet been revealed.

The project, at one time known as “The Pursuit of the Happening Script” “One Thousand A.E”, is based on a script by Shyamalan and Garry Whitta.

“Night is an outstanding filmmaker who has a tremendous vision for this science-fiction adventure story and we couldn’t be more excited to be working again with Jaden after our experiences on The Pursuit of Happyness and The Karate Kid,” Doug Belgrad, president of Columbia Pictures, said in a statement. “We’re thrilled to have the two of them together on this project.”

Added Shyamalan, “The chance to make a scary, science-fiction film starring Jaden and Will is my dream project.”

Look, I’m all for Shyamalan pumping out something as great as “The Sixth Sense” or “Signs” again but, well, the chances of that happening? I’m thinking low numeral. And it’s not that I don’t like the guy, I do, his first couple of films were amazing… we waited in anticipation for whatever he did next… but the man’s last three or four films have been absolute drivel; in fact, the best Shyamalan film of the past couple of years is likely “Devil”, and he only produced it (and even that was merely adequate).

Here come the Men in Bomb…
