Some good news for Ms Michael Douglas – and as you know, she’s darn well due for some.
Days after Catherine Zeta-Jones opened up to People magazine about having bipolar disorder, the ”Chicago” actress has inked a deal to join the all-star musicomedy “Rock of Ages”, the adaptation of the Broadway musical at New Line/Warner Bros.
The actress will be playing an original character in the film (i.e someone that was never featured in the musical) – the wife of the mayor of Los Angeles, a conservative character who is out to do away with rock and roll.
“There are so many plotlines in the piece, we thought it would be fun to create a villain, and a cultural discussion point,” director Adam Shankman told Deadline. “She’s the moral majority person, kind of like if Tipper Gore and Anita Bryant had a love child in that era. To have a great actress who won an actress in this genre with Chicago is wonderful.”
Zeta-Jones joins a cast that includes Diego Gonzalez Boneta, Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin, Mary J. Blige, Paul Giamatti, Russell Brand and Julianne Hough. The musical centers on two people who meet at the Sunset Strip club Rock of Ages, fall in love and try to stay together amid ’80s rock anthems. And also, there’s mullets. And Journey.
