The Clone Wars
Sam Witwer (“Smallville”, “Being Human”) will provide the voice of Darth Maul in the animated “Star Wars” series. Witwer, as those familiar with the Wars will know, provided the voice of ‘Starkiller’ in the “Star Wars Unleashed” Video Game (Nuke The Fridge)
Untitled Mandy Moore comedy
The musician cum filmstar will make the transition to TV (though she did guest on “Entourage” a couple of times, and more recently, “Grey’s Anatomy”) with the starring role in a new single-camera comedy that ”explores the inherent conflict between the families we grow up in and the families we make. It’s told through the lens of a young, newlywed couple – Annie (played by Mandy Moore) and Ben.” Shawn Levy, of “Reel Steel” fame, will direct the pilot. (Deadline)
Chris Cooper (“The Bourne Identity”) and Dianne Wiest (“Parenthood”) are in talks to star in the new HBO offering from Noah Baumbach & Scott Rudin. The series will be based on Jonathan Franzen’s book of the same name. “The award-wining 2001 novel revolves around the troubles of an elderly Midwestern couple, to be played by Cooper and Wiest, and their three adult children — roles that are now being cast — as they trace their lives from the mid-20th century to “one last Christmas” together near the turn of the millennium.” Baumbach (“Greenberg”) will direct the pilot. (Deadline)
Untitled Judy Greer comedy
The wonderful Judy Greer (“Love Monkey”, “Two and-a-half Men”) is likely going to be starring in her own series next fall. Written by feature scribes Harry Elfont and Deborah Kaplan (”Made Of Honor”), it ”is inspired by Greer’s life, where she moved from Los Angeles for the man she loves and found herself raising stepchildren and making new friends in a small suburban town”. ABC is where the show will call home. (Deadline)
The Secret Circle
The reasonably popular CW series, from “Scream” creator Kevin Williamson, has premiere on Fox8 in Australia on Halloween, October 31. Cassie Blake was living a happy, normal life until her mother died in a mysterious house fire. She then moves to her mother’s home town of Chance Harbor, Washington, to live with her grandmother but strange things start happening. When her new friends explain that she, like them, are all descendants of powerful witches she struggles to come to terms with her new life, until she discovers a hidden message from her mother that could change her life forever… (TV Tonight)
A TV series spin-off of the popular movie is under consideration at Fox. ”There was instantly talk of a sequel that might even be filmed in 3-D, but so far, Columbia Pictures has yet to greenlight a follow-up (even with The Walking Dead continuing to demonstrate Americans’ love for all things gross and deceased). Now, Vulture hears the sequel might actually not happen at all, but for a reason that might make fans happy: A half-hour TV version of Zombieland is in the works with original writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick onboard. Specifically, we hear talks are well under way with Fox Broadcasting and Columbia’s sister unit, Sony Pictures Television, to put the zom-com into development for the 2012-13 season. If it happens, it will actually be sort of fitting.” (Vulture)
