Elvis & Nixon
Marvel movie alum Eric Bana (“Hulk”) and Danny Huston (“X-Men Origins : Wolverine”) will star as Elvis Presley and Richard Nixon, respectively, in a new independent drama about “a 1970 powwow between Presley (Bana) and Nixon (Huston) when the former petitioned to be a Federal Agent at Large in the war against drugs, which in hindsight seems a bit odd. Presley brought a Colt .45 pistol as a gift to the president.” Cary Elwes, of “The Princess Bride” and “Saw” fame, makes his directorial debut on the picture. (Deadline)
The Marriage Counselor
Kim Kardashian and “Friday Night Lights”‘ Jurnee Smollett have joined the cast of the new Tyler Perry comedy. ”The film tells the story of Judith, an Ivy League-educated relationship expert who makes her living dispensing marital advice, but is so bored with her own marriage that she breaks her professional code and cheats with a smooth talking client only to realize she has made a huge mistake. Jurnee Smollett plays the marriage counselor and Kardashian will play Ava, a co-worker who gives Judith a big city makeover and new confidence as she struggles with her personal issues.” Shooting begins October 26 in Atlanta (Deadline)
Metallica 3D film
From “Some kind of Monster” to a 3D feature? Seems so. The members of rock band Metallica are self-financing the film, with “Journey 2 : The Mysterious Island” producer Charlotte Huggins overseeing the production. No word yet on what kind of film this will be – be it a biopic, a fictional piece, or whathaveyou but a director is currently being sought and until one is signed I think it’s safe to say we’ll hear little about what the gang have planned for their first feature. (Deadline)
Sin City 2
The characters of Marv and Nancy Callahan will return in the long-awaited sequel; that means Mickey Rourke and Jessica Alba will be back to play those characters, right? Frank Miller couldn’t say but did stress that those characters will make a reappearance. “‘Sin City’ number two is primarily an adaptation of the book ‘A Dame to Kill For’,” Miller says, adding “It also features the short story, ‘Just Another Saturday Night’ and two new stories. One involving Jessica Alba’s character, Nancy Callahan, that I came up with for the movie in order to tie things together and make it be more united with the first.” (MTV)
