Kerry Washington Lands Female Lead in Django Unchained

After much searching, The Weinstein Company and Quentin Tarantino have finally found the actress to play Jamie Foxx’s wife in Quentin Tarantino’s “Django Unchained”–the coveted role now belonging to ”Lakeview Terrace” star Kerry Washington.

Washington will play the long-suffering slave wife (named Broomhilda) of Django (Jamie Foxx), who is freed by a bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz) and taught the tricks of that trade. Django’s real desire is to be reunited with his wife, who winds up in a variety of unsavory places and whose travails drive the plot. It leads to a confrontation in Candyland, a ranch owned by the notorious Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio).

Washington will next be seen in “The Details” opposite Tobey Maguire, Elizabeth Banks and Ray Liotta and then star with Eddie Murphy in “A Thousand Words”.
