It’s been about five years since a “Fraggle Rock” movie was first announced and during that time we’ve… pretty much heard nothing positive on the film. In fact, it started to sound like cerise buttholes were the order of the day again. Fucked, we fans would’ve been. The Weinstein’s originally held the rights to the property but they kept spitting back writer Corey Edwards script, giving head-scratching comments like “It’s not edgy enough” and asking the parties involved if they’d be against the studiom theoretically dumping the film theatrically-speaking and putting it in a DVD bargain bin. Basically, Bob and Harvey wanted a ‘Muppet’ movie that skewed older. How much older? Not exactly sure. One thing’s for certain, they weren’t the right boys to bring us a ‘Fraggle’ movie. “Spy Kids 4″ with a pissing, talking dog? Yep, that’s their stuff. Not a ‘Muppet’ movie.

Options have lapsed, time has passed, and now, says Deadline, New Regency have the rights to the Jim Henson-created series. The Jim Henson Company and the Montecito Picture Company will produce the film version. Could be good. Could be great. Let the music play….

… but wait.

Thing is, New Regency have made a boatload of cash from the “Alvin & The Chipmunks” series though… does that suggest we might get something of a similair tasting brew from “Fraggle Rock”!? God I hope not.

Still, I guess an “Alvin and the Chipmunks” beats a “Spy Kids 4″, right!? Or does it!?
