Well, we weren’t expecting to hear this so it’s a nice surprise!

J.J. Abrams is apparently scouting Benicio del Toro to play the bad guy in the upcoming “Star Trek” sequel – and he doesn’t even know what the character is yet!

Sources have told Variety the offer will be made some time this week after the two met and spoke about it, but apparently the film studio wants it kept so top secret that he hasn’t even been told what the role will be.

Production is expected to kick off early in the new year – right now Alex Kurtzman, Robert Orci and Damon Lindelof are putting the finishing touches to the script.

Trekkies- would you like to see Benicio del Toro play the lead villain?
