A new photo of Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen has hit the internet today, just days away from what is expected to be the release of the film’s full theatrical trailer. Making its debut over at Business Insider, the photo shows Katniss in her signature pose with bow-and-arrow aimed, ready to shoot.
The film will make is long-anticipated debut on 23rd March 2012 and stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Stanley Tucci, Elizabeth Banks, Woody Harrelson and Toby Jones. Lionsgate is relying on “The Hunger Games” to turn a profit after the studio has suffered repeated losses thanks to recent cinematic flops such as “Conan the Barbarian” and “The Spirit”. “The Hunger Games” needs to gross $100 million in the US alone to justify the making of sequels – though Lionsgate’s co-head Jon Feltheimer is “not too concerned that we won’t get to that kind of number”.
“The Hunger Games” chronicles a dystopic Capitol which requires its twelve subjugated districts to pay tribute in the form of a teenage boy and girl, forced to participate in the annual “Hunger Games,” a fight-to-the-death live televised event. Katniss Everdeen’s little sister is chosen in the lottery to participate and Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) volunteers to take her place. Although survival against the odds is commonplace for Katniss, she must start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love in order to win the games and return home.
