The home of “Scream” and, um, “Phantoms” is about to put a roof over the head of another probable horror franchise; Dimension announced today they’re taking on the new vampire thriller “Garden District”.

Here’s the press release :

DIMENSION FILMS SINKS ITS TEETH INTO GARDEN DISTRICT

New York, NY, March 29, 2012 – Dimension Films announced today that it has acquired the rights to the vampire thriller GARDEN DISTRICT written by Anthony Jaswinksi (VANISHING ON 7TH STREET) and Luke Goltz (YOU AND I).

In the film, after a mysterious video of a vampire’s execution goes viral, a trio of young, ambitious myth-debunkers head to New Orleans to find out if the video was real or fake. They soon find themselves up against dark forces and in over their heads.

“This film reminds me of the early days of Dimension,” said Bob Weinstein, co-chairman of The Weinstein Company. “We look forward to making GARDEN DISTRICT as terrifying in theaters as it is on the page.”

GARDEN DISTRICT will be produced by David Kirschner and Corey Sienega. Overseeing for Dimension Films are SVP of Production and Creative Affairs, Matthew Signer and VP of Production and Development, Keith Levine.

The deal was negotiated for Dimension Films by Adrian Lopez, VP of Business and Legal and Matthew Signer, SVP of Production and Creative Affairs; for Jaswinski and Goltz by Peter Grossman of Lichter Grossman Nichols Adler & Feldman, Inc. Jaswinski and Goltz are repped by Lawrence Mattis at Circle of Confusion.
