Alicia Malone is a Film Reporter, TV Host, Producer, Writer, Editor, and all around movie geek. She developed her taste for film at a young age, spending many a heady Friday night pajama-clad at the video store, picking out her 7 films for 7 days for $7. Bargain! While at school she created a Film Club, electing herself President. Eventually the School Principal asked her not to get up in assembly to talk about movies anymore.

A couple of years ago I remember reading – probably here – that Jordan Kerner (“George of the Jungle”, “The Smurfs”) had announced his intentions to remake “Summer School”, the 1987 comedy from Carl Reiner and starring Mark Harmon as a popular, likeable high school teacher who is summoned to – instead of going on holidays with his girlfriend – teach the kids forced to do Summer School over the break. That original film featured, in the roles of the students, such actors as Courtney Thorne-Smith, Dean Cameron, Patrick Labyorteaux, Kelly Minter and Shawnee Smith. Kirstie Alley, of course, played Harmon’s love interest. Whatever the case, the remake never happened. Not sure why.

Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison Productions has now offered to try and get a “Summer School” remake off the ground. Sandler’s not starring in the film – at this stage – but his participation alone almost essentially guarantees the movie a greenlight.

Question is, which of Sandler’s cronies will play the Harmon role – will it be one of the more famous faces of the comic superstars troupe, like Kevin James or Rob Schneider? Or might Sandler hand the role to one of the not-so-famous members of his Happy Madison acting party, like Allen Covert? (The Hollywood Reporter)

Meanwhile, the Farrelly Brothers have secured Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels interest for the “Dumb & Dumber” sequel.

Peter Farrelly tells Coming Soon that “We’re getting set to shoot ‘Dumb and Dumber 2′ in September…It’s the first sequel we’ve ever done and we’ve got Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels back…We’ve always wanted to do a sequel and finally Jim called up. Jeff always wanted to do it. We always wanted to do it. Jim was busy, but he called and said, ‘We’ve got to do this thing again.’ He had just watched ‘Dumb and Dumber’ and he said, ‘This is the perfect sequel. Let’s do it.'”

Yay!
