The Days of Mary

Juliette Lewis (“Kalifornia”) will star in a remake of “Nights of Cabiria”. The new film, “The Days of Mary”, is said to be a contemporary retelling with transfers the lead character – a prostitute looking for love but finding only heartache – from Rome to Reno. Brad Michael Gilbert directs. (THR)

Maleficent

A swarm of bonafide talent have joined the cast of the Angelina Jolie-starring ‘Sleeping Beauty’ spin-off. Miranda Richardson (“The Crying Game”), Kenneth Cranham, Imelda Staunton (“Harry Potter”), Sam Riley (“Brighton Rock”) and Lesley Manville (”Another Year”) will join Jolie, as Maleficent, and Elle Fanning, as Aurora, in the Disney production. “Staunton and Manville are playing Knotgrass and Flittle, respectively, two of the three pixies who end up taking care of Aurora. (They were fairies in the original tales.) Richardson will play Queen Ulla, a fairy queen who is Maleficent’s aunt — and dislikes her niece. Cranham will play the human king who plots to conquer the fairy kingdom. Riley takes the role of Diaval, a raven who changes into human form and is Maleficent’s right hand.” (THR)

Brendan Gleeson (“The Cup”) and Abbie Cornish (“Bright Star”) will star in a dramatic thriller about “a war criminal whose only contact is his maid.” Brad Silberling (“Casper”) is directing and says, “There’s no greater pleasure than crafting a tale for brilliant actors to sink their teeth into, and with Brandon and Abbie, I feel like I’ve hit the jackpot,” Silberling said. “Watching them go toe to toe in this suspenseful tightrope walk of veiled intentions, cat-and-mouse psychology and desperate gambling for human contact — it will be a filmmaker’s dream to capture.” (THR)

James Cromwell (“Babe”, “L.A Confidential”) has joined the second season cast roster of the FX series. “Cromwell will play the sought-after role of Dr. Arden, who works at the institution and goes head-to-head with his boss, played by Oscar winner [Jessica] Lange”. (Deadline)

Ray Liotta (“Street Kings 2″) will star in Waymon Boone’s actioner about “a psychiatrist who finds himself caught in the middle of a deadly Mexican drug war.” (Deadline)

Gabriel

Rory Culkin (“Scream 4″) and Matt Czuchry (“I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell”) will star in the Lou Howe written/directed pic. “Culkin will star as the title character, a troubled teen who goes off his meds and sets off on a quest through New York City to find the first girl he ever kissed. Czuchry will co-star as his compassionate older brother, who must constantly assess and navigate Gabriel’s shifting moods.” (Variety)
