Hear Tom Cruise & Mary J.Blige croon in Rock of Ages!

Was just reading a rather fascinating interview with Adam Shankman in Empire Magazine in which he speaks about courting Tom Cruise for the role of Stacee Jaxx in “Rock of Ages”. Story goes that Shankman was trying to clear a poster of ‘Top Gun’ for use in “Going the Distance”, which he produced, and kept butting heads with lawyers; having met Tom Cruise at Adam Sandler’s kid’s birthday party (as one does), Shankman decided to go straight to the top and ask the man himself. He called Cruise, asked if it was OK to use the “Top Gun” poster in the Drew Barrymore-starring movie, and the actor agreed instantly. But before Shankman could hang up the phone, Cruise was inquiring as to whether or not there might be a musical they could work on together in the future. And that’s how Cruise came to be offered the small but pivotal role of rocker Jaxx in the film adaptation of “Rock of Ages”.

Cruise’s big moment, as Stacee Jaxx, in the film is a sequence where he rocks out to Def Leppard’s ‘Pour Some Sugar On Me’.

Sounds great doesn’t he!? (Apparently he worked with Axl Rose’s voice coach).

Equally cool, Mary J.Blige’s ‘Any Way You Want It’ moment has been revealed too. Here’s that clip from “Rock of Ages” :

“Rock of Ages” also stars Julianne Hough, Diego Luna, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Paul Giamatii, Alec Baldwin, Russell Brand and Malin Akerman.
