Remake casting update : Gary Oldman will play the creator of ‘RoboCop’!

Nuf said. Cool news. The end. Bye.

But for the sake of keeping the stories here as exhaustive as possible, word is the “Dark Knight Rises” star has accepted an offer to play Norton, the scientist who turns Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) into the metal man with the badge. The character, says THR, is reportedly torn between ” the ideals of the machine trying to rediscover its humanity and the callous needs of a corporation.”

Interestingly enough, rumours from a month or so back pegged Edward Norton as Padhila’s first choice for that particular part. Not really surprised the fussy but stupendous Norton, who seemingly prefers meaty arthouse fare over commercial blockbusters, chose not to stick wires in Robo’s helmet.

“RoboCop”, a reboot of the 1987 classic, will be shot in Toronto in September. It’s due out next Summer.
