You’d think the guy was made of sex and lollipops he’s so popular at the moment, alas Tom Hardy’s snagged himself another stout starring role : The leading man gig in Doug ‘Bourne Identity’ Liman’s mountain-climbing adventure “Everest”.

Deadline says the “Dark Knight Rises”, “Lawless” and “Mad Max Fury Road” star will play real-life captain courage George Mallory who, tried three times in the 1920s to become the first man to scale the world’s highest mountain.”

Jeffrey Archer’s book provides the inspiration for the yarn, with “Up in the Air” writer Sheldon Turner on scripting duties.

Very keen to see who Liman casts as George Finch, son of actor Peter Finch, the Aussie who Mallory beat to the top of the peak. Ben Mendelsohn got a direct line to Liman, perhaps?
