“Iron Man 3″ scribe Drew Pearce has inked a deal to rewrite Legendary Pictures’ “Godzilla”, according to Variety.

The film, from “Monsters” helmer Gareth Edwards, is locked in for a May 16, 2014 release.

Edwards takes over scripting duties from David Callaham, David S. Goyer, and Max Borenstein who wrote previous drafts of a “Godzilla” film that’s said to “return the character to its epic roots with a gritty, realistic actioner.”
