This long-gestating “Equalizer” movie just inched closer to hip status.

Nicolas Winding Refn, director of contemporary classic “Drive” (and whose new film, “God Only Forgives” looks to be just as spiffy an effort as his last), will helm the feature film version of the ’80s TV series, says Heat Vision.

Denzel Washington headlines the pic – – at least until Ryan Gosling gets wind of the news and demands his “mate” Nic play switcheroo with the lead.

An April 11, 2014 release date has been scheduled for the Richard Wenk-directed action-thriller – the poster of which will likely feature lots of neon blue.
