A “Batman” spin-off it is not, never the less Oliver Megaton stands to make a few quid from his next, “Taking Gotham”, an Emmett/Furla-produced actioner that sounds like a contemporary take on “Gangster Squad”.

Deadline says Thomas Kelly’s script fixes on ”a secret unit of the NYPD that was created in response to a string of brutal robberies in New York City. After a deadly sting operation, the elite unit is disavowed by the NYPD, forcing them to go deep underground in order to clear their names.”

The movie, finally getting underway in March after languishing in development for quite some time, is Megaton’s follow-up to the popcorn cash-cow “Taken 2″.
