Need for Speed

Rap Producer Scott ‘Kid Cudi’ Mescudi, Ramon Rodriguez, Rami Malek and Harrison Gilbertson have been cast in Dreamworks’ feature adaptation of the video-game. Aaron Paul plays Tobey Marshall, ”who races cross country at impossible speeds from New York to L.A., to get revenge on the man who killed his best friend. The film focuses on 70s-style fast-paced high-octane cars. Mescudi plays the driver’s best friend.” (Deadline)

True Detective (TV)

In addition to the just-announced Michelle Monaghan, Alexandra Daddario, Elizabeth Reaser, Wood Harris and Michael Potts have joined the cast of HBO’s new Matthew McConaughey/Woody Harrelson cop series. ”It centers on two detectives, Rust Cohle (McConaughey) and Martin Hart (Harrelson), whose lives collide and entwine during a 17-year hunt for a serial killer in Louisiana. The investigation of a bizarre murder in 1995 is framed and interlaced with testimony from the detectives in 2012, when the case was reopened. Michelle Monaghan was recently cast as the female lead, Hart’s wife Maggie. Daddario will play Lisa Tragnetti, a sexy court reporter whose relationship with Hart takes a dark turn for them both. Reaser will play Laurie Perkins, Cohle’s (McConaughey) pretty, refined girlfriend, a surgeon who works at the hospital with Maggie, and has dated Cohle for 4 years. Potts will play Maynard Gilbough, a cerebral detective. Harris will play Detective Thomas Papania, Gilbough’s partner. The two question Hart and Cohle about the 1995 case and feel the duo is hiding something.” (Deadline)

Under the Dome (TV)

Colin Ford, who voices the lead character on Disney’s “Jake and the Neverland Pirates”, has been cast in the small-screen version of the Stephen King yarn. ”Ford has been tapped to play Joe, a teenager in Chester’s Mill, the small New England town that is suddenly and mysteriously sealed off by an enormous transparent dome. ” The series premieres Monday June 24. 10 Things I Hate About Life

Billy Campbell (“The Killing”, “The Rocketeer”) is joining the sort-of “Ten Things I Hate About You” sequel, directed by Gil Junger. The pic stars Evan Rachel Wood and Thomas McDonnell (”Fun Size”) ”as a young woman and man who meet while attempting to commit suicide at the same “jumping-off point.” Complications ensue when the man’s ex-girlfriend re-enters his life just as his budding rock band is on the verge of signing a record deal.Campbell will play McDonnell’s father, a wealthy and entitled lawyer who doesn’t approve of his son dropping out of law school to pursue a career in music.” (The Hollywood Reporter)
