“Modern Family” star Sofia Vergara – she’s the spicy, buxom lass married to ‘Al Bundy’ – has a big year ahead of her. In addition to her TV series, she has a ‘showy’ role in “Machete Kills” with, among others, Mel Gibson.

Here’s her character poster :

Now, The Hollywood Reporter says she’s joining Jason Statham in “Heat”, which is a remake of an old Burt Reynolds’ movie of the same name.

Simon West (“The Expendables 2″) is directing the film, based on a book (originally).

The story centers on a recovering gambler-turned-hired bodyguard (Statham) working in Vegas who decides to help a friend (Vergara) after she is attacked by the mob but gets in over his head as he seeks revenge.

Vergara will also be heard in the upcoming “Smurfs 2″.
