Antonio Banderas, Martin Sheen and Rodrigo Santoro will star in “The 33″, the true story of the Chilean miners who were trapped underground for 69 days.
According to Deadline, producer Mike Medavoy developed the project with the men, their rescuers and their families are after securing the miners’ life rights last year. He’s assigned Patricia Riggen to direct.
Banderas (“Desperado”, “Spy Kids”) will play Mario Sepulveda (aka ‘Super Mario’). No word on who Sheen, seen recently in “The Way” and “The Amazing Spider-Man”, or “300” star Rodrigo are playing (likely two of the ’33’).
Production is scheduled to begin in the Fall.
