Two more exciting additions to Rob Thomas’s direct-to-disc/digital “Veronica Mars” movie have been announced; Tina Majorino (‘Mac’) and Krysten Ritter (‘Gia’). The “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Don’t Trust the B— in Apartment 23″ stars were outed this week as credit block recruits. Ritter, who also recently signed for Tim Burton’s “Big Eyes” movie, tells Twitter followers “I’m thrilled to be reprising my role of Gia Goodman in the Veronica Mars movie!!! It’s gonna be very juicy. … This will truly be an awesome shoot, not only because we all get to be reunited (can’t WAIT!) but because of the revolutionary way this all was able to come to life! (she’s referring to the Kickstarter crowd-sourcing campaign that funded the movie)”.
“Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” victim Ray Winstone has been recruited for the new Sean Penn/Javier Bardem/Idris Elba action thriller. Directed by Pierre Morel and Produced by action-beard Joel Silver, the franchise-ready flick tells of an assassin (Penn) who is betrayed by his employers. Winstone will play Penn’s mentor. (Deadline)
Sam Riley (“On the Road”) has joined Michelle Williams, Matthias Schoenaerts and Kristin Scott Thomas in Saul Dibb’s World War II drama. “Riley will play the role of French soldier Benoit in the film based on Irene Nemirovsky’s novel about a young woman in Nazi-occupied France who ends up falling in love with a German officer.” The film begins shooting in Belgium and Paris later in the Summer. Untitled Lizzie Borden Movie
Billy Campbell (TV’s “The Killing”) and Clea DuVall (“Argo) have joined Christina Ricci, playing the title role, in Lifetime’s Lizzie Borden biopic. ”the film tells the story of Fall River, Mass., resident Lizzie Borden (Ricci), who finds herself on trial for the brutal axe murders of her father, Andrew Jackson Borden, and his second wife, Abby Durfee Gray Borden, at their family home. She was acquitted though no one else was ever charged with the crime, which has remained unsolved. Campbell will play Borden’s attorney, Andrew Jennings, while Gersh-repped Duvall will play her sister Emma.” (Deadline)
