Simon Crane (the second-unit director on films like “Salt” and “Mr & Mrs Smith”) and Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (“28 Weeks Later”) are vying for the director’s job on Legendary’s “Hot Wheels” – yes, they’re making a movie about Mattel’s toy car series – according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Legendary are expected to make a decision in the coming weeks, with production planned to get underway first quarter 2014.

The script by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, says the trade, is surprisingly more “Mission : Impossible” than “Fast & Furious”.
